As an author with the Littlescribe literacy program I've provided story starters, writing tips and videos that students can use to complete the stories as co-authors.
I mentor a gifted and talented student writing group.
Extracts can be read in the Published Pieces section.
I have always loved writing fiction. I wrote my first novel when I was ten years old - handwritten in an exercise book ! My other forays included winning a writing competition, developing a short-lived newsletter in primary school and serving as news editor for the high school magazine where I also had some work published. Like many of us, I still have copies of stories and poems I created from my school days (including that old exercise book). My children are quite amused by the flamboyant butterfly and slouch hat shaped poetry projects I created in a world of pen and paper!
A few years ago I decided to pursue my old ambition to write children's fiction. I attended a wonderful workshop by children’s author Aleesah Darlison where I learnt how to approach the publishing industry, how to structure a picture book and why it's important to build an author bio. I followed that advice and started entering competitions - short stories and poetry for both adults and children. Fortunately I have had some successes, enough to furnish an author bio. Armed with this, I am now turning my focus to junior fiction and picture book manuscripts with the goal of publication.
Please see my Author Bio, Published Pieces and Current Projects sections. If you are a publisher interested in any of these projects I’d be thrilled to hear from you!
